In some instances the name of the pub was not recorded by the census enumerator. Sometimes the pub name could be "10 Market Square" - so if you know the street, try searching for "Market Sq" in either the "Name of Pub" or "Street" fields
Your entries do not have to match exactly . Eg entering "Lion" in the "Name of Pub" field will return pubs containing the word "lion". Eg   "Red Lion", "White Lion", "The Red Lion", "The White Lion" etc
If you are not sure of the Surname spelling select the "Soundex" option. Eg. if you type "Davis", the search will look for "Davis", "Davies", "Daveys", "Devis" etc
Abbreviations have been widely used by the enumerators. Eg. "The Three Horseshoes" might be recorded as "3 Horseshoes" or "3 Horse Shoes", "Railway Tavern" as "Rly Tav", "George" as "Geo.", "William" as "Wm." etc
The "Occupation" of publicans has been recorded in many different forms ("Publican", "Beer Retailer", "Innkeeper", "Inn Keeper", "Licenced Victualler", "Landlord" etc and many different abbreviations / spellings thereof - beware if using this field for searches!
