| This website
provides a comprehensive database of all pubs in England in the 1881 Census.
It also includes all people living at the pub at the time.
Use this website to help research your family history if
you think they were connected to public houses in 1881.
Some points to note:
Quite often the name of the pub was omitted by the enumerator conducting
the Census. Many are just listed as "Public House" or "Beer
House"
Some establishments are not even listed as pubs, but just a number and a
road (eg. 10 High St) - but if the head of the
household was a "publican", "inn keeper", "licenced victualler, "beer
seller" etc we have assumed that this was a pub.
Please let us know if you can fill in any gaps!
